It's time to dig deep and start ๐ŸŽฏ Wednesday Win

Starting is hard, but once you do, keeping up the momentum is much easier. Every habit effects every other habit. So first establish one positive habit and then add more over time. Each new one gets easier to keep in a positive cycle.

The good news is that every habit helps so instead of starting with the toughest challenge, pick one that's certain to recharge and encourage you to keep going.

Let's explore:

The framework

Building positive new habits shouldn't be drudgery. Choose wisely and you build momentum to make facing bigger challenges easier.

Recall the basic keys to forming good habits:

  • Repeatable actions
  • Clear definition of what's to be done (or not done)
  • Committed practice of 21+ consecutive days

Start with something that you will enjoy, that carries a low burden and make an absolute, thorough commitment to execute that habit.

Where is a good place to start? Here are some suggestions:

1. Creative goals

Do you have a creative pursuit? Something you've wanted to try? Bring it to life.

  • Take a photo each day
  • Write for 15 or 30 minutes each day
  • Create a daily illustration
  • Create a new app or tool

The key is to find a way to practice it each day.

2. Health & fitness goals

For some, picking up a new health goal can be one of the more challenging priorities, but for many others, it's a source of relaxation and relief.

If this is the right one for you, consider:

  • Walk for 30 minutes every afternoon
  • Start a daily weight tracker
  • Practice another daily exercise sequence
  • Reach a step tracking goal

3. Mental practice and other goals

Consider adding a daily practice of reflection or meditation. Learn a new skill. Network. Connect with others. What recharges you? Make it a clear habit and get to it.

  • Commit to regular family time
  • Identify three points of gratitude every evening
  • Complete a unit of a training course
  • Meditate each morning

Action Summary

Find something positive that you want to add to your life. Use a commitment to that as your first step towards a progress towards your goals.

  • Recall the basics: something to do daily and done daily for at least three weeks without stopping
  • Only once well-established, stack a second new habit on top
  • Pick something meaningful and enjoyable
  • Don't skip; don't break the chain.
  • Effort each day is essential
